I wonder if they would be happy to see so many people enjoy their work, or they would feel furious by the pedestrian way we treat what to them was the work of their life? So, all in all, I’m glad I read this book, but won’t deny that it was a struggle to plow through.

Additionally, several intriguing thoughts about the nature of art and the artist are sprinkled throughout the novel. Su vida y su obra corren paralelas. To sum up, it was a good read which became a bit dull in the middle but had some strong scenes that made me smile Irvingg Gogh first time in Paris, first good review and overall I feel that the book has reached ita purpose and let me for a second take look who was this tormented master.

Their voices were strong and rough ; the number of things they loathed in the world was legion. When this faded and became somewhat discoloured by wind and weather, it was an indefinitely quiet, delicate tone which just brought out the flesh colours. Although, I am interested to read more from this author! His brain ee a burning crucible, turning out red-hot canvas after canvas.


He puts the whole of himself into everything he does, which is evinced in his vivif career as a preacher and then in his painting. It was really quite sad. The premise guiding his life was that there is no beauty in happiness and that true beauty can only result from pain and suffering.

The Italian government lauded Stone with several honorary awards during this period for his cultural achievements highlighting Italian history. The fe did take away from the overall quality of the book, I’ve never read any Irving Stone before so I can’t really compare this to his other works.

I was so annoyed and wanted to yell at him to stop being to selfish and such a taker and just work for himself!

But the book captured the personality a little too well I think. I loved seeing how Van Gogh grew as a person as well as an artist. Whether he painted well or badly didn’t matter; painting was the stuff that held him together as a man.

Its tells the tale of a very sad soul but its so beautiful, many parts had me crying It shows glimpses into the life of a man who struggled so much and yet always gave all that he had and worked with a fervor and passion to put into art all that he felt and to imbibe in every piece his emotions and a bit of himself and his beautiful, tortured soul. I thought he did a lot of go It was OK. Just yuck to that. When at home, Stone relied upon the research facilities and expertise made available to him by Esther Euler, head research librarian of the University of California at Los Angeles, to whom he dedicated and thanked, in addition to many others, in several of his works.


Lust for Life was surprisingly entertaining. But now he was never going to move again. I’m glad I got to finally read a book about the life of an artist, and I think Irving Stone puts a lot of effort and depth in portraying Van Gogh.

Theo was the one person on whom Vincent could always depend. He drank a lot, smoked a lot, hooked up with prostitutes, and lived off his brother –or others. It makes for a very long book when you start hating Van Gogh by the end of the Prologue! There’s enough spark of life in his letters to inspire both the beauty and tragedy behind his legacy for stond to come.
